Ashitaka, after killing the god-turned demon boar that threatened to destroy the village he had lived in, was cursed by the demonised boar god and must journey to the west to find a cure from the Deer God of the Forest. Along the way, he met San, the Mononoke Hime, who tried to kill the head of an iron-making town - Lady Eboshi. San was raised by the wolf god Moro after being abandoned by her parents, and had wanted to help to restore the condition of the forest, which was cleared under the order of Lady Eboshi. Having been outpowered by the guns invented by Lady Eboshi's men, San was saved by Ashitaka, who got hurt terribly in the process by gun. San brought Ashitaka to the Deer God of the Forest, and Ashitaka wound was cured but the curse remained. Having found out about a plan to kill and take the head of the Deer God of the Forest, Ashitaka made up his mind to help San, the wolf god and the boar god's tribe fight against Lady Eboshi's people. But the Deer God of the Forest was killed, and a monster was created in search for the head of the Deer God of the Forest. Eventually, both San and Ashitaka returned the head and the monster transformed back to the alternate form of the Deer God of the Forest before vanishing into the dark.
Mononoke Hime was indeed a masterpiece from Hayao Miyazaki. The movie revolved around the theme of nature vs the greed of human beings. Human beings, with the development of weapons, had cleared vast plot of forest in an attempt to harvest resources from nature. This often impacted the eco-system of nature and had long-lasting consequences that would be felt eventually by human beings. Through the struggle by San to try to stop Lady Eboshi from clearing more forest and the many attempts by Ashitaka to make both human and nature live together in peace, viewers are guided through a journey filled with wonders of nature, wars, issues of ecology and debates of morals and principles...
Beautiful animation, mystical settings, and subtle music also complemented the serious nature of the film... This movie will probably stand-out among others for years to come... Definitely a film worth recommending to friends...
