After last friday, I have to really re-consider how I should view my supervisor... I mean... Up till that day, he was a figure of authority in my eyes... With high expectations and a man of little words... Certainly one who made me felt very stressed and unwilling to speak to him... And yet... On last friday... He actually cracked jokes and... He laughed heartily!!

What happened was a minor incident that occurred with the actuator parts while Xie Ling, Siti and me were in the lab testing the actuation time... Somehow one of the actuator went berserk and caused the newly added clamps used to position the cartridge to fly off... Almost scared the wits out of three ladies... So Xie Ling made a call to my supervisor and informed him of the happening... Soon, a very worried supervisor stepped into the lab and was quickly updated about the incident... Then, Siti (the Bio Lab technician) remarked about how dangerous the situation could had turn out to be had the parts hit any of us... And that she would had to miss her date... Then my supervisor just laughed out heartily and loudly!! He actually went on to add to the joke and the quiet lab (due to the fact that it was after knock-off time) immediately filled with big laughters...

The atmosphere was heightened when another technician, who was responsible for making the clamp, arrived at the scene to repair the flew off clamp... The jokes made went a little bit out of hand... And delayed the intended testing that was suppose to be carried out... Having noticed that it was nearly seven, I said my goodbyes to all without waiting for the start of the testing... And the other surprise just came dropping down... My supervisor actually thanked me... Despite the fact that I did not manage to do what I was supposed to!!

This had troubled me deeply... I had not had a good impression of my supervisor since I met him during the interview... And the task he had assigned me only deepened my belief... But after last friday, I am starting to have second thoughts... My entire mind is in a swirl... Should I throw away all the prejudice of previous encounters and try to see my supervisor differently? Or last friday's happening was just an illusion? Maybe Siti's ability to engage anyone in a conversation did the trick... Maybe it was friday... Maybe I really misunderstood my supervisor...

Anywhere, I just hope that he would smile more and stop putting up that look which is freaking me out every time I talk to him... And in exchange for that, I am willing to try to understand him better... At least, erase all the bad impression he had left...
